Like many people around the world, United States First Lady Melania Trump also spent her birthday on Sunday while observing social distancing guidelines. That is not to say, however, that she did not celebrate at all.
Melania Trump turns 50
The First Lady marked an important life milestone as she turned 50 on Sunday, but social distancing protocols are still in place across the U.S. to slow down the spread of novel coronavirus. As a result, gatherings for celebrations like birthdays and weddings have been canceled or postponed.
However, PEOPLE reported that Melania Trump still celebrated her birthday with her family, per the First Lady’s aides. She also received a straightforward greeting from Donald Trump, who tweeted, “Happy Birthday to Melania, our great First Lady!” Last year, the President revealed that he asked his wife to have dinner at the White House with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe for her birthday.
FLOTUS has sent out a tweet to thank her supporters who wished her a happy birthday. “This year, my heart is with those who have missed their own celebrations of birthdays, holidays, & special occasions with their families, friends, & colleagues,” she added. “I look forward to the day when we can all be together again!”
In the days leading to her birthday, Melania Trump sent care packages to hospitals in 10 states that include, as Associated Press reported, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Delaware, Nevada, and the District of Columbia. Said boxes contained blankets and activity materials for children such as Dr. Seuss's books, stickers, pencils, and bags. The staff of a Trader Joe’s location in D.C. also received packed lunches on boxes with the Be Best logo on Saturday from the office of the First Lady.
Melania Trump’s works during COVID-19 crisis
Weeks before her birthday, Trump appeared in several PSA videos where she addressed children and senior citizens to encourage them while everyone is advised to stay home. She also reminded Americans to wear cloth face coverings in public.
The White House had to cancel this year’s Easter Egg Roll, but Trump and the White House still found a way to celebrate it. The First Lady appeared in another video on Easter Sunday to read “The Little Rabbit” by Nicola Killen to children.
